44 YEARS OF SERVICE TO NORTHERN OCONTO COUNTY 1968-2012

The Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club Inc. was established in 1969 and proudly gets its name from the historic 32nd Infantry Division created in 1917 and made up of National Guardsmen from Wisconsin and Michigan. The Red Arrow distinguished itself in WW I, WWII and in 1961 during the Berlin crisis. In December 1967 the 32nd Division was disbanded and the 32nd Infantry Brigade was created to take its place. The 32nd Brigade is made up entirely of Wisconsin National Guard soldiers. Soldiers of the 32nd Infantry Brigade proudly wear the "Red Arrow" on their shoulder today. Hwy 32 that runs through Townsend is named after the famous fighting group.

Red Arrow grooms over 60 miles of trails. The majority of the trails run through the Nicolet National Forest. Our trails are connected to the Paul Bunyan trails to the south, the 100 Miler (LMT) to the north, and the Lily Sno Birds to the West. In addition to our funded trails we groom about 20 miles of unfunded club trails

From Townsend you can Snowmobile anywhere!! The Nicolet State Trail (the grade) is State Corridor Trail # 7 which runs thru Townsend.

Red Arrow has been working with the Forest Service and local town governments to open additional ATV riding opportunities in our area. Presently all Town of Townsend roads (Not Hwy 32 or Cty T) are legal for ATV operation. There are several gravel forest roads that provide a beautiful view of our Northwoods. The Towns of Lakewood and Doty have opened a few of their roads to complete additional riding loops off the Nicolet Trail. All legal roads are clearly marked with ATV route signs and arrows. Please stay on marked routes. It is not legal to go off marked trails onto private property or the National Forest. For 2010  the Nicolet Trail  thru Townsend WILL BE OPEN all the way to Michigan.

The Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club Inc. grooms with up-to-date equipment. We have an “Ultimate” tracked power unit that pulls a 10’ wide Ultimate drag. It is powered by a John Deere diesel and easily handles the beautiful hilly trails west of Hwy 32. Our other groomer is a John Deere 125 HP 4WD tractor that pulls a similar Ultimate 10 ' drag. Winter grooming is done several times per week depending on snow conditions. Trails are prepared in the fall by removing the downed trees from summer storms, brushing by hand and with a “Brush Hog” mounted to our John Deere. We also grade out the ruts caused by summer use of the trail. All of this is accomplished with volunteer labor that usually totals over 1000 hours per year. Volunteers are always welcome. Many of our volunteers have commented that the time they spend on trail maintenance gives them a sense of pride and ownership.

The Red Arrow is a year around club and welcomes ATV owners to join with us. Our official name is the Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club Inc. Our monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday evening of each month from October to March. Our annual meeting is the third Saturday morning of April and summer meetings are held the third Saturday of each month from May thru September. Meetings are held at the Townsend Town Hall or area businesses that support our club.

Joining Red Arrow entitles you to the monthly newsletter, a membership card, membership in the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs including their magazine and a $2,000.00 life insurance policy from AWSC. We encourage our ATV members to join the Wisconsin ATV Association. The Red Arrow has two fund raisers yearly. Our annual ATV Corn Roast is the Saturday of Labor Day weekend and our annual Fish A Ree is the 2nd weekend of February. If you are interested in joining our club please contact President John Brantmeier at 920-540-5948 or jbrantmeier@athenet.net We welcome everyone interested in riding in our area. While active participation is encouraged it is not necessary to be a member of our club.
