44 YEARS OF SERVICE TO NORTHERN OCONTO COUNTY 1968-2012

“2011 Red Arrow Corn Roast Brings 2,500 visitors to Townsend”

Saturday of Labor Day weekend was a day to remember in Townsend. At 10:30 about 30 ATVs & UTVs let by Parade Marshall Kathy Evans lined up at Townsend Shell to parade north. Their destination was Barb’s Valley Inn to kick off the 5th Annual ATV Parade & Corn Roast sponsored by Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club and Barb's Valley Inn.  The rainy morning kept parade participation down but things got rocking soon after the parade arrived at the Corn Roast.

The huge crowd estimated at over 2500 spent a cool, cloudy early fall afternoon under a huge white tent enjoying raffles, music and lots of good food and corn. At 5PM just as the rain began again Little Vito and the Torpedoes from Madison took the stage for a 3 hour set of vintage 60s & 70s Rock & Roll. The enthusiastic crowd greatly enjoyed their show during a hard rain but the evening was far from over. A second Madison band  Quest took the stage and continued on until after 11PM with more good old fashioned Rock & Roll music.

Club President John Brantmeier wants to express a great big thank you to Chairpersons Annetta and Wayne Janda. Also thanks to Rob & Kim Seebers of Townsend Shell and Willie Evans for organizing the parade. Thanks to Johnsonville Sausage for the meat donations, the Townsend Fire & Police Departments, the Townsend Flowage Association, and the 80 plus businesses who donated prizes for the event. And of course thanks to all who worked at and/or attended the event.

The winner of the 42” LCD TV from Forest TV in Lakewood was Peter Pankratz of Appleton, the $250.00 gas prize from Townsend Shell was won by Shannon K area of area code 920 and the collector print from Citizens bank was won by Nate Vosters of Appleton. The $100.00 gift certificates from Lakewood Super Valu, Sunset Resort and Mikes Supermarket were won by Joe Hapke of 414 area code, Jeff Budnik of Richfield and John Koss of Manitowoc. Finally the two $50.00 gas cards from Townsend Shell were won by Tim Bohl and Ralph Calaway both of Townsend.

Jim & Barb Majestic, owners of  Barb’s Valley Inn really went over the top to provide a great venue and two tremendous bands. Red Arrow cannot thank them enough for their support of this event and their yearlong support. Look for the bar with the snowmobile (and now ATV) on the roof just north of Townsend.    A very nice event profit will help the Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club maintain their record of having some of the finest snowmobile and ATV trails in this part of the state.

Kathy Evans former owner of the Valley Inn served as Grand Marshall for the ATV/UTV parade
Jim & Barb of the Valley Inn rented this huge tent for the crowd estimated at 2500. Thank goodness as it rained off and on all day.
The raffle crew was busy all afternoon with lots of great meat raffles and other prizes donated by local businesses
Little Vito and the Torpedoes from Madison did a great job playing Oldies music. They were followed by a second Madison band Quest who played more of the same.
